Bangkok- Day 1 Sawadeeka

(I actually wrote some of this post while I am in Bangkok but I got caught up with other matters. Ehem.)

Sawadee ka!

I am in the land of smiles, in Bangkok to be exact. I have left the kids with the husband and came here for a personal retreat. Missing my kids very much and I have never left them behind before however I have to go away for some personal sanity, take a breather and plan for the new year.

It has been 4 years since I was last at Bangkok. Now there’s 3G network. Yay! Tourist can easily buy a local data plan and the airport has a subway that goes to city area. I am putting up at Asoke area so all in all it took me over an hour to reach the hotel. Good deal for a lone traveller to spend less than 100B on public transport. I could have taken a cab but decided to save the money and some cab drivers wouldn’t know where the hotel is. A taxi ride would have cost around 350B.

Oh, I got my room upgraded. Woo hoo!

After checking in, I went to a nearby mall, Terminal 21 to find something to eat. Settled my first meal at Mos Burger which is my fave fast food burger chain. Can I just say that MB in BKK is excellent?! The greens is fresher and the burger is overall well made! IMO, of the mos burgers in various cities/countries I have tried and in order of preference, Tokyo, BKK, Taipei and SG.

The concept of Terminal 21 is to bring several popular traveling destination under one roof, so each floor is decorated with a theme, eg, Hollywood, Istanbul, San Francisco… Etc. The mall layout is well thought out. On each floor there is a section with dozens of little shops. What I also like about the mall is that the toilets are fitted with Japan made toilet systems that wash your bums. Lollllx.

I ended up having Coco Ichibanya’s
Curry rice for dinner. Why no local food and Japanese food? In Bangkok, the Japanese community is rather big and generally the Japanese restaurants here are decent and authentic. Why are there many Japaneses in BKK? Some are for work since Japanese cars, air conditioners and I don’t know what else have the manufacturing plants in Thailand while some settled for retirement there.

That’s all for today’s update!
